presentation training: Detailed information on content, timings and tech requirements
This page is designed for organisations who want a detailed understanding of the Better Social Media workshops I run for Libraries, Archives and Museums. If you just want a general overview of all the different versions of the workshop, head to the main Training page!
There is also detailed information on both Strategic Marketing and Social Media workshops. You can email me on nedpotter@ymail.com to discuss booking any workshop.
The in-person version: Room layout and technical spec
The in-person workshop runs from 10am - 4pm. I will bring a laptop on which to present, so the venue will need to supply the projector and screen. This workshop doesn’t require sound / speakers, but I’ll need to access wifi.
This workshop needs to be held in a PC room: or if not, then every delegate needs their own laptop and mouse (and there needs to be strong wifi and enough plug sockets for this). Every delegate needs access to the internet, and to PowerPoint.
I bring different booklets according to which version of PowerPoint is installed on the PCs – if you can let me know in advance whether it’s Office 2010, 2013 or 2016 then I can make sure the screenshots in the instructions are correct.
This workshop is usually capped at 25 participants – if you need it to be larger than this let me know and we’ll try and accommodate the numbers! Delegates don’t need any previous experience but I’ll assume they’ve all used PowerPoint before unless I’m told otherwise.
Online Presentation Skills training usually runs from 10am - 1pm.
As the host organisation you would provide the webinar software (Zoom, Teams, Go-To or similar). I have a two-screen set-up (so I can always monitor the discussion and pick up on questions as they happen), high-speed internet connection and a high quality microphone.

Workshop description
The aim of these workshops is to build confidence and be able to produce amazing looking but, crucially, effective presentations, in a variety of styles depending on how important the presentation is and how much time you have.
Everything in this hands-on training is based on the research into multimedia communication, and how to get your key messages to stay in the minds of your audience: how to make your message stick. No gimmicks, just achievable ideas and techniques which work.
The workshop covers the golden rules of creating presentations, finding amazing images without breaking copyright laws or spending any money, and creating PowerPoint Presentations in different styles, varying in complexity and flexibility so you can choose which to use for a given presentation.
We’ll also look at Menti, an interactive quizzing tool: when and when not to use them, and how to use them most effectively. The final section centres around presenting itself: researching presentations, delivering talks and teaching, and conquering nerves.
All the materials (slides and booklet) will be available online for delegates during and after the workshop.
[If you’re booking an in-house version of this workshop - so all the delegates are from the same organisation - it will be tailored so that the examples use your branding / PowerPoint template.]

“I would definitely offer it to other colleagues as I feel the techniques covered are ones that could be practically incorporated into working practice i.e. they’re not just a gimmick to do once to show you’ve attended the workshop, but something that you can build in to your presentations to continue that search for best practice and therefore better experience for attendees – whether they’re students, staff, or members of the public.” LIEM
“Powerpoint session was excellent – very useful. Presenting skills section also very good. Excellent presenter! (Thank you for not making me present on the spot!)” CPD25

”I was not expecting to find this course interesting, as I despise bullet points and white-background PowerPoint presentations that make my eyes hurt, but this was the exact opposite.
